Andrew Thorburn

A family man, drummer and Highlanders-fan by night, by day, Andrew is a career banker having held various senior positions across the New Zealand and Australian banking industries.


He’s held his current role at BNZ since 1998, and has a string of tertiary qualifications gained in three different countries – a Bachelor of Commerce (Economics) from University of Auckland, a Diploma in Marketing from Chartered Institute of Marketing UK, and an MBA from the University of Durham UK. He has also completed The Executive Programme (TEP) at Darden Business School, University of Virginia.


Among many other groups, the committed Christian is currently a member of the Canterbury Business Recovery Trust.


Andrew believes with the right focus on customers and innovation, banking makes a vital contribution to a growing economy, and getting the basics of banking right is crucial to New Zealand’s sustainability, jobs and growth.
