Dame Patsy Reddy

Governor General of New Zealand

Her Excellency The Right Honourable Dame Patsy Reddy was sworn in as New Zealand's 21st Governor-General for a five-year term on 14 September 2016.


Dame Patsy was previously a partner of a successful law firm and then worked for Brierley Investments for a number of years. She has also worked in the public sector and has made a significant contribution to New Zealand in a range of areas, including as Chief Crown Negotiator for Treaty settlements, the Chair of the New Zealand Film Commission and Deputy Chair of the New Zealand Transport Agency.


Dame Patsy is very keen on arts and culture – particularly film, opera and visual arts. She was named Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 2014 for services to the arts and business, including roles at the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and the New Zealand Film Archive.


Dame Patsy is married to Sir David Gascoigne and they divide their time between Wellington and the Wairarapa.
