David Farrier

Journalist & Documentary Filmmaker

Raised in Tauranga, David Farrier joined TV3 in 2006 after graduating from the Auckland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Communication Studies. Entertainment reporter for late-night show Nightline, David's interviews ranged from Hollywood stars to the sublimely ridiculous. He co-hosted the cryptozoology-focused audio program The Cryptid Factor with comedian Rhys Darby. In 2015 he became co-host for the TV3 show Newsworthy and later joined Darby again as the reporter on mockumentary show Short Poppies in 2014.

After leaving TV3, David concentrated on a documentary about the dark underside of competitive tickling, which he directed with Dylan Reeve. Tickled was invited to the Sundance Film Festival in early 2016 and was met with widespread acclaim and sales. In 2018, he co-created the Netflix documentary series Dark Tourist, in which he visits unusual and often macabre tourist spots around the world.
