Derryn Hinch

Derryn Hinch is a controversial Australian broadcaster and NewstalkZB's Australian correspondent.

Derryn Hinch has been at the centre of a media scandal in recent months as host of a drive show on Australia's 3AW news and talk radio network. He has been charged with five counts of breaching suppression orders when he named two sex offenders, both on his website and in a public rally on parliament steps.

If found guilty, he would normally be sent to prison, but to complicate the sentencing, Hinch has been told that he only has a matter of months to live. Cancer is eating away at his liver and if he does not receive a transplant soon, he will die.

Born and bred a Kiwi from New Plymouth, Derryn moved to Australia when he was only 19 and started working for the Sydney Morning Herald. In 1968 he became a foreign correspondent for Fairfax Media and worked in the United States for over a decade.

Derryn lives in Melbourne with his wife Chanel and Scrappy Muttley Hinch, the family cavoodle.
