Hon Steven Joyce

Hon Steven Joyce

This Sunday night on Real Life (27th May) John Cowan's guest will be a government minister with no ordinary background, now juggling a number of portfolios, Hon Steven Joyce.

Mr Joyce may have completed a zoology degree at Massey University, but it was a radio station, Energy FM, he went on to start at the age of 21. Expanding the enterprise, he built up RadioWorks as a publicly listed company, and along the way launched The Edge, Solid Gold FM and developed The Rock radio station.

After selling RadioWorks in 2001, Mr Joyce took up various strategic roles in the National Party, and managed their general election campaigns in the 2005 and 2008.

In 2008 Mr Joyce was handed two cabinet portfolios - Transport, and Communications and Information. He currently stands as the Minister of Economic Development, Science and Innovation and Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment.

Somehow, in amongst all this, the busy MP makes time to spend with his family, Retrodoodle "Gemma" and other livestock on his 7-acre lifestyle block north of Auckland.
