Martin Crowe
Martin was born in 1962 in Henderson, Auckland, into a cricketing family. His father, Dave Crowe, was a domestic cricketer and his brother Jeff also captained the New Zealand team at an international level.
After representing four different domestic teams, Martin went on to play 77 international test matches for the Black Caps. In 1991 Martin made 299 runs in a single test innings, the highest in Test history for a New Zealander.
Martin moved into coaching after his retirement from professional cricket and in 2009 married former Miss Universe Lorraine Downes.
In late 2012 Martin was diagnosed with Lymphoma, a cancer of the blood, and just this week heard news that his body has responded brilliantly to chemotherapy treatment.
Martin's recently released memoir, Raw, chronicles everything from his sporting achievements to the emotional roller coaster of his recent battle with cancer.
