Peter Chin graduated from University of Otago and began working in Dunedin as a lawyer in 1968. Trying his hand at politics, he was elected to the Dunedin City Council in 1995. Peter served three terms before becoming mayor in 2004. He was re-elected in 2007 with a strong majority.
Peter has recently served as head of the Gambling Commission, as a member of the Flag Consideration Panel and is also known as a prominent operatic singer. Peter is married to Noleen and they have four children.
