Russell Brown
Born in Lower Hutt, Russell has become one of New Zealand’s most prolific independent journalists.
The title of his blog, Hard News, was originally the name of his radio programme on Auckland’s student radio station bFM. The show aired from 1991 to 2002 and the bulletin officially became a blog in 2002. In 2011 he received the inaugural Qantas Media Award for blogging.
Russell has written for The Listener on technology and media since 1993, as well as Unlimited magazine and Computerworld.
In 2001 Russell became the founding host of Mediawatch on Radio New Zealand National.
As well as currently hosting Media7 on TVNZ’s channel 7, Russell serves on the board of the New Zealand Sound Archives and NZ On Screen.
Russell now lives in Auckland, with his partner Fiona and their two sons.
