
Sir Bob Harvey
Former Mayor of Waitakere City
Sir Bob Harvey was the mayor of Waitakere City for eighteen years before the area joined the Auckland Super City in 2010. He was also the founder of one of NZ’s largest advertising agencies, MacHarman Ayer, where he worked for 30 years. He currently has the role ‘Champion for Auckland – overseas investment’ to promote Auckland internationally and facilitate international investment opportunities.
Harvey has been deputy chairman of the New Zealand Film Commission and Spark Foundation, and served on the boards of Te Papa and the Aotea Centre Trust. He is also a published author and historian and is a regular contributor to Metro magazine.
Harvey is a keen swimmer and was first to attempt the notorious mouth of the Manukau Heads. A committed surf lifesaver, he is a life member of the New Zealand Lifesaving Association.
