
Al Brown
Al grew up on a rural farm in NZ. He later completed a Culinary Arts Degree at the New England Culinary Institute in the USA and has cooked in restaurants across North America, Europe and NZ.
In 1996, Al opened the award-winning restaurant Logan Brown in Wellington with Steve Logan. Al has since opened successful eateries, Depot Eatery & Oyster Bar, Federal Delicatessen and Best Ugly Bagels. Al’s love of seafood inspired his first book, Go Fish: Recipes and Stories from the New Zealand Coast which won several awards. His other books include Stoked: Cooking with Fire and Depot: Biography of a Restaurant. Al has presented several television shows including Hunger for the Wild and Get Fresh with Al Brown, as well as being a judge on Masterchef New Zealand in 2015.
Al has been a culinary ambassador for NZ Trade & Enterprise since 2003 and was made a Member of the NZ Order of Merit in 2012 for his services as a chef. Al spends his time outside of work with his wife Lizzie and two daughters, walking his dogs and fishing.
