Billy Graham
Having left school without being able to read or write, Billy Graham has ‘punched above his weight’, and inspired thousands to succeed in life despite circumstantial disadvantages.
Turning lives around is what Billy does on an everyday basis. In 2005 he bought the Naenae Boxing Academy in Lower Hutt, where he now helps troubled youth to get back on track by providing them a safe place to train while also gaining confidence and life skills.
Billy was awarded Kiwibank Local Hero of the Year in 2011 for his stellar work with youth. He’s also a much sought-after motivational speaker whose story has been told in the book, “Making Champion Men: How one New Zealand man's vision is changing boys' lives”, written by sports writer Phil Gifford.
