Celia Wade-Brown
This Sunday on Real Life (6th May) John Cowan's guest is a woman who opted for a bicycle instead of a $70-thousand mayoral Audi, Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown.
Growing up in a West London council flat, Celia took a gap year in Ghana before completing a degree in philosophy at the University of Nottingham. She then began her career with IBM, and later moved to Wellington in 1983.
In 2002 she founded a walking advocacy organisation, Living Streets Aotearoa, and is a woman who walks the talk - or more precisely, pedals.
The wife and mother of two sons has been a Wellington City Councillor for most terms since 1994, until beating long-standing mayor Kerry Prendergast by 176 votes in the 2010 elections.
