Dame Lyndsay Freer

Lyndsay came to the role of Auckland Catholic Spokesperson after twenty-five years as a media spokesperson for the Catholic Church of New Zealand. She is a respected and trusted voice both in church affairs and in the New Zealand media. She was the first layperson appointed to head Catholic Communications.

Dame Lyndsay Freer was in St Peter’s Square earlier this month to witness the announcement and catch a glimpse of the new Pope. She was also in Italy eight years ago for the election of Pope Benedict when Pope John Paul the second died.

Lyndsay became a Papal Dame in 1995. This honour was bestowed upon her only weeks before her husband passed away after battling cancer. She enjoys singing as well as juggling the responsibilities of her various board commitments, including The Catholic Care Foundation.
