Kyle MacDonald has worked in mental health, addiction, domestic violence and specialist psychotherapy programmes. He is trained in both behavioural and psychodynamic therapies, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy with a particular focus on mindfulness-based approaches. He is also a columnist for the New Zealand Herald, writing a weekly column responding to readers questions about mental health and therapy.  He is a regular expert co-host on Mike King’s long-running mental health interview and talk back radio show “The Nutters Club”.


Kyle has also been an outspoken critic of the changes to the ACC Sensitive Claims process. This commenced when he initiated an online petition in 2009, signed by over 4000 people in opposition to the new policies. This lead to Kyle serving as the NZAP representative to the ACC Sensitive Claims Advisory Group from 2010 until 2014.  He now serves on the New Zealand Association of Psychotherapists National Council as convener of Public Issues.
