Mike has taken a highly-visible leadership role around a range of work to improve Police’s diversity, inclusiveness and overall culture. This has included initiating the Police High Performance Framework and adding Empathy and Valuing Diversity to Police’s core values which underpin ‘Our Business’, the New Zealand Police strategy on a single page.
At the time of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, Mike was the New Zealand Police Liaison Officer for South East Asia, based in Bangkok. He was the first New Zealand Official on the scene in Phuket and coordinated initial assistance on the ground. In 2005, Mike was recognised by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for Services to New Zealand Police when he was invested as a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM).
Mike is married to Vicki and they have one daughter.
