Professor Jeff Tallon

Dr Jeff Tallon specialises in the fields of superconductivity and nanotechnology.  He is a scientist at Industrial Research Ltd and, until recently, was concurrently Professor of Physics at Victoria University of Wellington. He is internationally known for his research, discoveries and commercialization of high-temperature superconductors (HTS) and has made important advances in understanding their unusual properties.


Jeff has more than 270 scientific publications, 15 international patents and has received many awards for his work, including the Rutherford Medal. In 2009 he was awarded the Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, CNZN an in 2010 the inaugural Prime Minister’s Science Prize. He has been a Visiting Professor at Cambridge University, The Technical University of Denmark, the University of Paris and EPFL, Lausanne, Switzerland. In past years he has worked at Oxford University, the UK Atomic Energy Research Establishment, Harwell, and Imperial College, London. Professor Tallon is a Visiting Fellow at Trinity College Cambridge.


Jeff is a keen musician – plays the piano and dabbles in composition. He is a keen sportsman, fuelled nowadays mainly by tennis and jogging. He is also a committed Christian and speaks and writes widely in the area of Christian apologetics and the interface between science and faith.
