Brian Kelly

Brian Kelly MNZM has been named a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to broadcasting. Raised in Whanganui, he began his career in 1970 with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation, selecting songs for national radio. He later moved into sports journalism and broadcasting, building a career that has spanned 55 years.
Kelly has been a prominent voice on Coast FM and has spent four decades as New Zealand’s voice of motorsport. Since 2021, he has hosted The Country Sport Breakfast on GOLD, a show produced by his son Mark. Over the past 4.5 years, he estimates he has conducted around 14,000 interviews for the programme.
In addition to his broadcasting work, Kelly also volunteers as a tutor and mentor at the New Zealand School of Broadcasting.
